My 6-months at The Columbus Dispatch has officially come to a close. Photographing and living in the capital of my home state is something I will always cherish.
Having an extra 3-months (compared to the traditional 3-month summer internship) was beyond helpful because it gave me time to really settle in. For me this internship was a lot about becoming more technically sound. I can now confidently say that I can caption and transmit while walking down the street and set up lights on the fly and that is a feat! (I also know where all the best coffee is in Columbus....and the best pizza).
I feel like my photos are starting to look like me more---something I am really proud to admit because it has required a lot of patience to find my sort of style. I think it's something you eventually fall into naturally, but it surely requires a lot of assignments to get there!
I can not thank the staff enough and I will miss them all so much. It was so nice to always have someone around the office to ask questions on the fly or just to grab a coffee with. The photogs at The Dispatch (though all extremely well-rounded) seem to have a specific skill they each kind of hone in on (feature hunting, portraits, sports etc.) which made improving in certain areas a lot easier.
I'll miss Columbus but I am feeling confident about my next adventure. I'll be freelancing here in NE, Ohio until I find it.
Here are some of the favorite images from my review with the staff!
